New Hong Kong Girl Group IdG 2% Debuts as Youngest Act in IdG Franchise

HONG KONG – A new duo is entering the local music scene as the third act under the “IdG Idol Girls” project, debuting on August 6 after more than 570 days of training. The group, named IdG 2% , comprises the youngest members of the project’s first-generation trainees: Fiona Li, 15, and Elva Ng, 17.

The pair launched with the original song “借啲倚” (roughly translated as “Borrow Some Support”), a light, locally produced track. Producers and songwriters Albert (credited as the project’s chief producer) and lyricist Chung Shuo crafted the single specifically around the duo’s close chemistry, which organizers say emerged naturally during training.

The two met during the initial IdG auditions and quickly became inseparable, performing together at small public events and building a following online as a self-styled “CP” (couple-like pairing). Their synergy, described by the production team as “sweet and默契十足” (full of tacit understanding), became the creative spark for their debut release.

Debut Day Festivities

On launch day, IdG 2% kicked off a whistle-stop promotional tour across Hong Kong. After recording at Commercial Radio in Broadcast Drive, the duo boarded a convertible for a series of pop-up appearances.

First stop: Mong Kok. Fans had gathered early, armed with handmade banners and placards. The duo handed out small cards to supporters and passersby. During the stop, a tourist approached them for a photo; the pair promptly assumed the role of “one-day tourism ambassadors,” recommending local attractions and identifying themselves as a newly debuted Hong Kong girl group.

Second stop: Causeway Bay. At a well-known street dance spot, the duo performed the choreography for their debut single and invited six fans to learn the dance moves. Participants received limited-edition towels as souvenirs. The day concluded with a group photo of fans and the fledgling artists.

Behind the Nerves: ‘We Were Scared, But We Had Each Other’

Reflecting on the day, Fiona admitted to initial anxiety. “Before it started, I was a bit scared,” she said. “But with Elva there, I wasn’t as scared. And some fans who have supported us since our trainee days followed us from Commercial Radio all the way to Mong Kok and Causeway Lee. It was really fun.”

Elva echoed the sentiment, adding, “I was nervous too. But fans along the route shouted, ‘They’re IdG 2%, debuting today!’ Seeing them be so bold, we felt we had to step up.”

Growing the ‘IdG’ Franchise

IdG 2% is the third group to emerge from the IdG Idol Girls project, which marks its first anniversary this year. The first group, IdG Bubbes, debuted in September 2023; the second, IdG Sundae, followed in March 2024. The project is part of a broader push in Hong Kong’s entertainment industry to cultivate young, locally rooted pop acts, leveraging social media and street-level fan engagement.

Looking Ahead

The duo’s debut comes amid a resurgence of interest in Hong Kong Cantopop, particularly among younger audiences who value authenticity and grassroots connection. IdG 2%’s success will depend on whether they can sustain the organic fan base built during training and translate viral moments into long-term chart presence. Industry observers will watch to see if the project’s model—smaller, younger, hyper-local groups—can carve out a lasting niche in a competitive market.

For now, the two teenagers say they are focused on improving and repaying fan support. “We still have a lot to learn,” Fiona said. “But we’ll keep going.”
