HONG KONG — Actor Kenneth Ma joined co-stars Nicole Kwok, Hera Chan, Yau Ka-yan, and Yumi Chung on Thursday at a promotional event for the upcoming TVB drama The Game of Couples, where the cast reenacted Kwok’s character’s playful mannerisms on stage.
The gathering drew media attention not only for the lighthearted antics but also for personal updates from the stars, including Ma’s response to persistent pregnancy speculation surrounding his wife, actress Rosina Lam.
Baby Rumors Dismissed
When asked whether he appreciates romantic partners being coy, Ma said he would find it endearing if a future daughter behaved that way, adding that Lam rarely does so. He addressed recent rumors that Lam might be expecting, which surfaced after she was photographed covering her abdomen.
“She was probably just adjusting her clothes,” Ma explained. “If there’s good news, we will definitely announce it. I don’t understand why every time she poses for a photo, pregnancy rumors start — just like how Rosina (Lam) gets the same treatment whenever she steps on stage.”
Ma emphasized that he is in no rush to become a father and is taking a “let nature take its course” approach to starting a family.
Playing the Villain
Nicole Kwok portrays a so-called “green tea” character in the drama — a term used in Chinese pop culture to describe someone who appears innocent but is manipulative. Kwok said she has not been confronted by viewers in public, though many recognize her role.
“Everyone knows the real me isn’t like that, and I’m not naturally good at acting coy,” she said. During filming, Kwok practiced alone in her hotel room, delivering lines in a high-pitched voice to prepare for scenes with co-star Jonathan Cheung.
Cheung’s character teasingly compares Kwok’s figure to a microwave, a joke she said she found hilarious rather than offensive.
Relationships and Nicknames
Hera Chan, who recently split from actor朱敏瀚 (Brian Chu), clarified that she only behaves affectionately toward female friends. She also addressed a nickname given by feng shui master Mak Ling-ling, who called her “the queen of getting back together.”
Chan explained that the label refers to her emotional and nostalgic personality, not a tendency to rekindle past romantic relationships.
“I’ve grown up these past few years and believe in living in the present. I don’t dwell on the past anymore. My memory is getting so bad I forget what I did in the morning,” she said with a laugh.
Travel and Body Image
Yau Ka-yan recently returned from a two-week overseas trip, during which she posted bikini photos on social media. She said the rare opportunity to visit beautiful beaches abroad, combined with growing confidence in her physique, motivated her to share the images as a form of self-encouragement.
Addressing comments about her frequent travel, Yau countered: “It was only two weeks, but the flight took 16 hours. If I didn’t stay long enough, it wouldn’t have been worth it.”
She acknowledged the trip cost close to six figures in Hong Kong dollars, calling it “heartbreaking” but justified for a well-earned break.
Off-Screen Hobbies
Yumi Chung revealed that she has upgraded from a provisional driver’s license, jokingly naming herself the “female speed racer of the New Territories North.” She emphasized that safety remains her priority and confirmed she has given rides to fellow singer Chantel Yiu.
Regarding recent comments about weight gain, Chung attributed it to water retention caused by weather and pre-semester stress. She said she is exercising regularly to get back in top shape.
The Game of Couples is expected to air later this year on TVB.
