Hong Kong Music Stars Energize Racecourse Event, Discuss Busy Schedules

A roster of prominent Hong Kong musical artists headlined the prestigious “Fashion Race Day” at Sha Tin Racecourse today, captivating attendees with high-energy performances amid discussions of career milestones and industry shifts. Singer-songwriter Jay Fung served as a dynamic event ambassador, delivering a five-song set that included popular tracks like “Attention to Entrants,” “Unreasonable Pleasure,” and “Vengeful Romance.”

Fung, joined by fellow Mandopop and Cantopop stars Jason Chan, Phil Lam, Alex Lam, and George Ng, performed a vibrant show in the Paddock area. Speaking about the atmosphere, Fung expressed excitement over performing in the unique equestrian setting, noting the high energy reminiscent of international celebrity appearances. He specifically chose a set incorporating energetic choreography and singing to maximize the impact of his debut performance in the racing venue.

Balancing Success and Workload

Following his recent win of the coveted Commercial Radio Male Singer Gold Award, Fung confirmed that his professional commitments have intensified. Despite planning for a vacation, he opted to minimize his break to prioritize incoming work. “I thought I would be exhausted after the concert tour, but I’ve found that I truly enjoy the work,” Fung noted. He ultimately shortened his month-long leave to just two weeks. Looking ahead to his 38th birthday on March 22, he shared plans to host a celebratory gathering for his fans. In appreciation of his successful year, Fung intends to treat his colleagues to a dinner and distribute the customary Lunar New Year lucky money packets, known as lai see. When asked about any upcoming personal milestones, such as marriage, he maintained a relaxed stance, promising to share any “good news” publicly.

Meanwhile, Jason Chan and Phil Lam, both impeccably dressed for the fashion-forward event, offered updates on their own packed schedules. Chan, who is preparing for his highly anticipated July concert at the iconic Hong Kong Coliseum (often referred to as the Red Hall), described his preparations as being “in full swing,” dedicating significant time to rehearsing older material. Chan is also set to release a new album in February while simultaneously compiling material for his next project.

Industry Dynamics and New Arrivals

Lam is currently promoting his latest album and shared positive news regarding its reception, expressing gratitude that two retail music stores have already sold out of copies. The artists also addressed recent shifts within the music industry, including the announcement that singer Gigi Yim has joined Sony Music and ongoing rumors concerning the possible management change of another high-profile star, Keung To.

Both Chan and Lam expressed positive views on the evolving landscape, emphasizing that they are not concerned about internal competition. They welcomed the infusion of “new blood” into the music company, viewing the growth as strengthening the local music family. “The family is getting bigger and bigger,” Chan remarked, suggesting a focus on collaborative growth rather than rivalry.

The event not only showcased world-class entertainment but also provided an insightful look into the demanding schedules and forward-looking attitudes of some of Hong Kong’s most successful music artists as they navigate both personal achievements and the dynamic shifts within the entertainment industry. Their collective enthusiasm for hard work and performance underscores the resilience of the local music scene.
