Joey Yung Champions Happiness and Modern Relationships at Fashion Event

Hong Kong pop icon Joey Yung recently spoke candidly about personal fulfillment and evolving relationship dynamics, emphasizing that happiness is achievable regardless of one’s partnership status. Attending a high-profile fashion brand event on April 16, Yung sported a style she described as “whimsically elegant,” blending distinct personality with a touch of sweetness. Her comments followed news of close friend Charlene Choi’s (Ah Sa) relationship with a fitness trainer, sparking a conversation on modern love.

Yung expressed unwavering support for Choi, noting her friend’s evident joy. “If she says she is happy, then that is what matters,” Yung remarked, adding that Choi’s contentment was palpable. She shared that she had met Choi’s partner, Elvis, previously at a Kenny Kwan concert and during a subsequent group meal, describing him as physically fit, healthy, and possessing good character.

Challenging Traditional Relationship Labels

The singer strongly rejected the term “age-gap relationship” (姊弟戀, or older woman/younger man) as outdated in contemporary society. Yung argued that prevailing social norms should prioritize mutual happiness and genuine connection above all else.

“If it feels right, the age difference is irrelevant,” she asserted, championing acceptance for all forms of affectionate partnerships.

Despite confirming that she currently has “no shortage of suitors” and is consistently pursued, Yung maintained that emotional connection and suitability remain paramount in choosing a partner. She stressed her preference for prioritizing feeling and authenticity over superficial attention.

Celebrating Milestones and Upcoming Concert Plans

The conversation shifted to the recent 45th birthday of fellow Twins group member, Gillian Chung (Ah Gill). While Yung was unable to attend the in-person celebration due to scheduling conflicts abroad, she and Choi collaborated to send Chung a necklace as a joint birthday gift. When asked about Chung’s personal relationships, Yung declined to elaborate, focusing instead on her conviction that Chung is in a state of happiness.

Yung also addressed swirling speculation regarding her performing schedule. She firmly denied rumors of a concert slated for April, explaining that securing a suitable new venue and preparing a show of the necessary scale requires a minimum of six months.

The award-winning artist is optimistic about holding an event later this year, with the large-scale Kai Tak Main Sports Park arena being the desired location. She conveyed a mix of excitement and anxiety about the undertaking, particularly the premature inquiries about ticket sales, which have already begun to generate “the concert atmosphere.”

Yung indicated that the immense scale of the prospective venue means that the performance might be limited to a single large show, requiring significantly more effort than previous tours. To ensure the success of the ambitious project, she plans to consult with industry veteran Nicholas Tse for advice and experience. In the interim, Yung confirmed her immediate focus is on producing new music.
