A prominent celebrity mother has publicly detailed a significant transformation in her seven-year-old son’s behavior and focus after implementing a strict ban on electronic devices. Coffee Lin (Coffee) observed that removing access to tablets and online videos drastically improved her child’s demeanor, concentration, and initiative to engage in non-screen activities.

Lin, who married Zhai Zhi-rong in 2018 and is mother to seven-year-old Zhai De-yan (Yanyan) and newborn daughter Rea, shared the notable changes on Wednesday. Since the implementation of the ban, the celebrity mother noted a dramatic reduction in Yanyan vocalizing boredom, a phrase often heard when children rely on screens for constant stimulation.

“He no longer incessantly tells me, ‘I have nothing to do,’” Lin stated, highlighting the shift. “Instead, he now fills his days with various self-initiated activities around the house, and the constant pleading for even a minute or two of watch time—which truly felt like an addiction—has stopped.”

Lin acknowledged that supervising a child without the convenience of digital distraction is physically exhausting. She described her daily routine as “much more tiring” now, as Yanyan frequently seeks her out for interaction or demands participation in his games.

“Although raising him without the iPad and YouTube is much more demanding—because he constantly needs my attention or asks me to join his play—I would rather endure the fatigue myself than allow him to continue developing an addiction to electronic devices,” she asserted.
