Vocalist Kay Tse Funds Major Family Trip Before Son’s Studies

Hong Kong celebrated the commencement of the holiday season Thursday evening as acclaimed Cantopop vocalist Kay Tse attended a prominent Christmas lighting ceremony. The event gained particular attention with the singer’s 18-year-old son, Zhang Jin, making a rare public appearance alongside his mother, acting in an assistant capacity. Tse revealed upcoming international career plans and detailed an elaborate, fully financed family entourage trip scheduled before her eldest son departs for university studies abroad.

The award-winning artist is set to perform a concert in Malaysia next month, an engagement that will feature her husband, performer Louis Cheung, as a special guest. Tse announced that she is leveraging the opportunity to transform the work trip into a major family and company vacation. The extensive entourage is expected to number around 20 people, including both sets of parents, her children, and colleagues.

Blending Work and Family Travel

The holiday excursion’s cost, which Tse confirmed she is covering entirely, is projected to be a six-figure sum. When playfully questioned by reporters if her husband would contribute to the expenses, Tse responded lightheartedly, explaining her philosophy on marital finances.

“Ah Cheung’s money is my money, and my money is my money,” Tse quipped, emphasizing her role as the sole financier for this particular adventure. “I want to host and take the credit this time.”

Tse explained that due to their individual busy schedules expected during the Christmas period, the trip serves as a vital opportunity to spend quality time together. Critically, it is timed just before her son, Zhang Jin, prepares to enroll in university in Australia next February. The singer hopes the journey will create lasting, joyful memories.

Appraising a Rising Assistant

Reflecting on her son’s recent performance as her personal assistant, Tse offered high praise, noting improvements in his confidence and competence. She mentioned his professionalism extends to duties like procuring coffee and meals daily, affirming, “He calls me ‘Boss’ when we are working now, and he seems to have a natural talent for arranging delivery orders.”

While the younger Cheung initially felt uncomfortable navigating the public scrutiny that accompanied news reports of his assistant role, Tse encouraged him to handle media attention with grace.

“He worried about how to respond when people greeted him,” Tse noted. “I told him to simply say, ‘Thank you,’ and be gracious.” The artist added that her son was genuinely pleased to receive validation for his efforts.

Future Career Aspirations

Discussing potential career paths for her son, Tse confirmed he had received several offers for on-screen commercial work, which he declined due to shyness. Tse suggested he might thrive in behind-the-scenes roles, perhaps accumulating experience before leaving the country.

Zhang Jin’s long-term academic and career ambitions, however, lie in sports. Although he initially considered becoming an athlete, he found the required rigor too demanding. He plans to pursue a degree in sports science with the goal of becoming a team coach and physical education teacher.

Tse highlighted his existing experience in the field, stating, “He is very capable. He has served as an assistant coach for children’s and secondary school football teams and has also gained experience teaching volleyball and basketball.”

The well-publicized family trip underscores a common trend among celebrities prioritizing extensive family memory-making before significant life transitions, reminding parents to seize moments for connection amid demanding professional careers.
